Two-time heavyweight champion Joshua Released from Medical Facility in Nigeria Following Deadly Road Accident

Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital, officials in Lagos confirmed on Wednesday evening. The 36-year-old was involved in a car accident outside Lagos on December 29th, a tragic incident that claimed the lives of two of his valued colleagues.

Recovering from Minor Injuries

The boxer had been under observation while recuperating from non-critical injuries, representatives had said on Monday. The commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement on social media that Joshua was deemed clinically fit to leave and heal privately.

“The boxer and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to say their last goodbyes to his two friends who passed away as they were being prepared for repatriation,” the commissioner stated.

Honoring the Deceased

The victims of the crash were identified as Latif Ayodele, a personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, a conditioning specialist. The official further stated that the athlete was heartbroken and overcome with emotion over the loss of his two close friends.”

His release from the hospital comes as the sports world shared sympathy for the champion in the aftermath of the terrible crash.
