The network's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this charming family go about their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
The Path Forward
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well be part of that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
