The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller That Blends Survival Horror with Among Us Mechanics
The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled a number of fascinating future games, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.
"It's a distinctive game where a young woman containing multiple human souls within her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.
Stepping Into a Fractured Mind
In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Inside her reside four distinct personas, each with their own anxieties and motivations. These souls can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.
Based on showcased gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy medical facility, while additional clips show the protagonist exploring a abandoned chapel.
An Environment of Personal Dread
"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to other people can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are specific to every individual."
The central mechanic involves controlling the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these identities will change against your will as you play. While exploring, every persona's fears become amplified and attack the protagonist one after another. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.
Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision
Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the lobby have large flowers where their heads are. Floral motifs are a recurring element, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.
Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four souls asserts that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."
After a player have deduced a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, because every entity can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.
"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The last one standing might be a fake. In any case, your choices are irreversible."
UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
