Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his position after another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the team's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell of this nature with performances like these.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
