Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
